Firemen capture monitor lizard inside chicken coop

James Kon

Firefighters on Friday captured a two-metre monitor lizard weighing around 10 kilogrammes, in a chicken coop in Kampong Parit Belayang, Temburong.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD), six firefighters led by ASO Haji Yussof bin Hj Jerudin from Bangar Fire station responded to a call of wild animal disturbance.

Upon arriving at the scene, the firefighters used a snake catcher to capture the monitor lizard. The reptile was released into the jungle, away from human habitat for public safety.

The FRD reiterated to the public to keep their residences and premises clean. Doors and windows should be closed when not at home to prevent stray or wild animals from entering.

The public are also warned against approaching or provoking wild animals.

For emergencies, contact the FRD hotline at 995.
