Firefighters from the Sungai Liang Fire Station and Seria Fire Station battled a blaze at a small shop in Kampong Sungai Tali, Mukim Lumut on Sunday, extinguishing the fire with no reported injuries, the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) said.
According to the FRD, 13 firefighters led by Station Commander of Sungai Liang Fire Station SO Sulaiman bin Omar responded to the shop fire at 10.38am. Upon arrival, they found smoke emitting from the shop’s roof.
Fire crew immediately attacked on the source and opened the shop door using bolt cutters and spreaders, while dousing the area to stop the spread of fire to exposed houses in the area.
The fire, which also damaged bedroom walls of the house next door, was brought under control. The cause of the fire and the estimated losses are under investigation.
The FRD said all buildings and residences should be equipped with fire extinguishers and fire blankets.
Electrical devices should be switched off after use or before leaving the house. Doors and windows should be kept open in the event of a gas leakage.
Only electrical devices and wiring from accredited companies should be used while electrical supply should not be overloaded, the FRD advised.
