Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (Yayasan) yesterday handed over BND11,400 in financial assistance to five heads of families who were victims of the house fire at Kampong Bolkiah ‘A’ recently.
The financial assistance was handed over by Permanent Secretary (Planning, Land Use and Environment) at the Ministry of Development Dr Nor Imtihan binti Haji Abdul Razak as Acting Managing Director of Yayasan.
The recipients were Rosli bin Haji Tuah, Mohd Supian bin Isa, Mohammad Rosjime bin Rosli, Mohammad Salleh bin Rosli and Haji Raub bin Sulaiman.
The ceremony was held at the transit home of Yayasan in Kampong Bolkiah ‘A’, where four of the affected families are staying while one family is staying at a temporary placement flat at Kampong Belimbing Subok.
The ceremony also saw the presentation of financial assistance from the Community Development Department (JAPEM) using national welfare body fund.
The financial assistance was presented by Permanent Secretary (Community) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Hajah Nor Ashikin binti Haji Johari.
One of the fire victims thanked Yayasan and JAPEM for the donations.
“We really appreciate the care and assistance from His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. The financial aid will definitely help to ease the burden that our families are currently experiencing.”
The house owned by Rosli bin Haji Tuah was destroyed in a fire on Sunday morning.
Fourteen people escaped the blaze safely, however a senior citizen who was one of the family members tragically lost her life in the incident. – James Kon
