A vehicle was engulfed in flame during an incident at the four junction traffic light at Kampong Perpindahan Mentiri yesterday.
Two fire engines from Mentiri Fire Station led by ASO Mohammad Rafie bin Abdul Latif responded to scene. The driver was rescued by the public before firefighters arrive.
Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) personnel extinguished the fire with the aid of breathing apparatus and reel hose from the fire engine. No casualties were reported and the cause of fire is under investigation.
The FRD advises the public to always ensure their homes are equipped with a fire extinguisher, fire blanket and battery-operated smoke detector, while wirings and electrical appliance installation should be done by qualified technicians. Electrical appliances must be switched off when not in use. According to Brunei Shell Marketing (BSM) standards, gas regulators should be unplugged when not in use and should be replaced every five years and the gas hose every two years.
The FRD provides fire marshall course, life saver course and fire safety talk, as well as a demonstration on the correct method of using a fire extinguisher.
