Festive spirit fills Belait District

Chinese New Year (CNY) celebrations were in full swing as the Chinese community welcomed the Year of Rat yesterday.

In the Belait District, lion dance troupes from various schools and groups made their way across the district.

Chairman of Chung Ching Middle School’s Board of Governors Chin Kim Min led the lion dance team from Chung Ching Middle School.

The team first stopped at the residence of Oei Tze Kiong, a supporter of the school.

The traditional lion dance performance aims to bring luck to all during the new Lunar New Year.

Another lion dance group from Chung Ching Middle School performed at the residence of Wong Ming Ching. Wong welcomed the troupe and orphans from the surrounding area to his residence.

Wong also handed over red envelopes (ang pao) to the orphans.

Another lion dance troupe that made the rounds in the district was from Chung Hua Middle School Kuala Belait. They visited the residence of Chairman of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Belait District Loo Soon Nin.

Meanwhile, the residence of Chairman of the Kwong Wai Siew Association Koo Kong Loi, also invited the lion dance troupe from Chung Lian School in Kampong Sungai Liang. They performed at the open house, enjoyed by family members and guests.

The Chinese community across the nation will continue to celebrate the New Year for the next two weeks until the 15th day, marking the Lantern Festival or Chap Goh Mei.
