Female entrepreneurs in Jakarta to receive awards

Two Women’s Business Council (WBC) members left Brunei for Jakarta, Indonesia yesterday to receive awards.

The award programme organised by the ASEAN Women Entrepreneurs Network (AWEN) in Indonesia.

The Bruneian delegation of five WBC members is being led by WBC Vice-President Hajah Mordiah binti Haji Jackia.

Hajah Mordiah said this is the council’s ninth participation, and two members will receive awards for food and handicraft.

Awardee Hajah Sabdiah binti Modin is a baker and Hajah Azimah binti Abdullah weaves baskets.

Hajah Mordiah said they were selected for achievements in their businesses and also contribution to WBC. She said the award aims to show appreciation to women excelling in their industries and contribute to society.

Hajah Sabdiah said her business named Puncak Rezeki Trading won Brunei Food Awards last year. Her cakes and pastries are classics such as steamed cakes, sapit and bahulu. Hajah Sabdiah hopes that with the new award, she can expand her business overseas.

Hajah Azimah, meanwhile, expressed gratitude for the award. She said it was for recognition for her active participation in local and foreign expo including in United Arab Emirates, India and China. She hopes with the award she will be inspired to broaden her horizon.

WBC President Datin Paduka Hajah Rokiah binti Haji Zakiah was present to send the delegation off at the Brunei International Airport.
