Over 200 guests attended the annual general meeting (AGM) held by the French Bruneian Business Association (FBBA) at the Mutiara Ballroom of the Radisson Hotel in the capital yesterday.

The meeting began with welcoming remarks by French Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam and FBBA Patron Christian Ramage, followed by opening remarks from the outgoing FBBA President Nicolas Wawresky. It continued with the approval of agenda and AGM minutes of 2019, in which a report on 2019-2021 activities was presented by FBBA secretary Tan Cheng Voon.

Christian Ramage, in an interview with the Bulletin, noted that FBBA is a very dynamic association and has been in establishment for 20 years.

“I am grateful to FBBA as they are a part of the French team in the country and to the Brunei Government.”

Christian also thanked FBBA members including Baiduri Bank Chief Executive Officer Ti Eng Hui for the support and acknowledged French companies in the country such as Total as well as locals who represent French companies in different economic activities.

Local companies are also part of the success of the French products in the country as departmental stores such as Hua Ho imports many products from France. The ambassador touched on tyre products such as Michelin and the presence of Peugeot and Citroen cars, which he said is a niche market.

Christian also touched on sports such as Petanque. “Petanque is a French word from Southern France which means you don’t move your feet and must stay inside the circle before you throw the ball. It is very popular in France and in other European countries, and now it’s popular in Southeast Asia. Maybe we will have a Petanque tournament between the FBBA and Petanque teams in the country.”

Voon said, “Social events such as Family Day and the annual get together are networking events for government agencies and private companies.”

Voon added, “The FBBA hopes to conduct a mini showcase of French products along with local products this year with lots of fun activities.”

Voon also said that the FBBA provides a networking and business info-sharing platform to its members and guests.

The meeting concluded with the election of the association’s executive committee members 2021-2023 and closing remarks by the ambassador. Musa Adnin was elected President of the FBBA.
