MELAKA (BERNAMA) – A mother and her two children were injured after their stall at the side of Jalan Limbongan here was rammed by a car yesterday.
Melaka Tengah district Police Chief ACP Afzanizar Ahmad said the victims, Norazizah Jenal, 57, Nurul Ayu Umairah Samsudin, 15, and Muhammad Aliff Hazimie, 13, were selling kuih and sugar cane juice at the stall when the incident occurred at 5.21pm.
He said preliminary investigations revealed the vehicle driven by a 47-year-old man, heading to town from Klebang, went out of control and crashed into the woman’s stall.
“The woman and her son sustained injuries to their legs, while the daughter was injured in the right shoulder, abdomen and left leg. “All the victims were brought to Melaka Hospital for treatment. The victim’s motorcycle was also damaged in the incident,” he said.
Afzanizar added that the driver, a technician, did not sustain any injuries but tested positive for methamphetamine and heroin. He also did not possess a driving licence.
“Further investigations revealed that the man has criminal records relating to drug offences, and a remand application will be made at the Ayer Keroh Magistrate’s Court,” he said.
The case will be investigated under Sections 43(1) and 45A of the Road Transport Act 1987 and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
