The Big Red Warrior is truly a beast to be reckoned with. The large inflatable obstacle course is one of Jerudong Park Playground’s latest attractions, and brings to life your favourite episodes from TV shows such as Ninja Warrior and Wipeout.
I recently faced the Big Red Warrior myself, and it definitely came out the victor. When they say it’s an extreme and exhilarating obstacle course that’s designed to push you to your physical and mental limits, they were not kidding.
To get a picture of how massive the Big Red Warrior actually is, the whole obstacle course is made up of 25 unique segments with each obstacle bringing a new set of challenges that you must conquer.
My anxiety started to creep in as soon as the safety marshals briefed us on the dos and don’ts of the massive obstacle course.
The first, and most memorable moment, was the start of the Big Red Warrior itself. You have the choice of literally jumping in at the start from two points of entry – one a higher drop and the other a lower one.
Without me knowing it, I was on the ledge and with much coaxing I finally took the plunge and marked my first few steps into the obstacle course.
Each round comprises you and a challenger. Thanks to my luck, I was going against one of my more athletic colleagues, Muiz.
After the initial jump and finally getting back up on my own two feet, I was pumped and filled with much-needed adrenaline. In the corner of my eye I could see Muiz buzzing past me and I quickly followed, grabbing the straps of the next obstacle and pulling myself forward over several hurdles.
My feeling of self-accomplishment quickly faded away as I struggled to catch my breath, looking straight at the never-rending obstacles in front of me.
“You can do it!” cheered the marshal, which was then echoed by my peers who watched on.
After each obstacle I would ask myself in my own head, “Why do I go all out?”
As such, here is a tip I would like to share for those who are going against the Big Red Warrior: a little goes a long way, as the main goal switches from trying to finish first to trying to actually survive the beast.
It was safe to say Muiz got the better of me as I placed last and was humbly reminded I was not at my physical best.
The Big Red Warrior is more than just a test of fitness – it is also a test of your mental strength, a physical representation of obstacles in your way. When you take out the race aspect of the challenge, you are actually challenging yourself, to prove to yourself that you can overcome any obstacle.
That day I was definitely defeated, but I promised myself that it would not be the last time the Big Red Warrior would ever see me. Now, knowing my weaknesses and with a game plan in mind, I plan to conquer the behemoth and it will be a day I would remember.
Jerudong Park shared that the Big Red Warrior is a great team exercise, and that was definitely the case for me and my peers. For me, most of the strength to cross the finish line was from the support of my peers.
After personally experiencing it, I can see why the obstacle course has become one of the highlights among the attractions at Jerudong Park Playground.
Another piece of advice from me is to have fun and not take it seriously, and you and your friends or family will definitely have a wonderful time.
For the fitness enthusiasts out there, the massive obstacle course is the perfect benchmark to test their stamina in a fun and most challenging way, racing for the best time with their partner.
For those who are looking to live out their Ninja Warrior-style fantasy, the opportunity to do so is now right, here in Brunei.
