The Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (FABD) has reiterated its desire towards elevating football in Brunei Darussalam.

President of FABD Pengiran Haji Matusin bin Pengiran Haji Matasan said this during the launch of the new national jerseys at the Dynasty Restaurant in Gadong yesterday.

“We have been sleeping for the last two or three years because of the COVID-19 pandemic,” the president said.

“But that can no longer be an excuse. We face a huge challenge in enhancing the quality of football in the country. Our efforts to improve football in the country must follow appropriate strategies.”

He continued, “There is no success without failure. If we fail, it doesn’t mean that we haven’t achieved anything.

“When we fail, let it be a lesson for us. We must find ways to improve so that we can continue on the path towards success that we envision.”

The president also said that the association works towards cultivating belief in football in the country to become a pride of the nation.

Meanwhile, FABD Deputy President cum Chairman of Marketing and Commercial Haji Salleh Bostaman bin Haji Zainal Abidin said, “The national jersey is a symbol of being a Bruneian. It is a symbol that fosters the spirit of nationhood in whomever wears it.

“Wearing a national jersey is an honour as not all will wear it to represent the country. There are a lot of people who are interested and intend to wear the jersey but only a handful will be provided the opportunity.

“Therefore, we hope that one should wear the jersey full of pride, honour and responsibility.”

The deputy president also labelled a football player as the new “modern warrior”, especially those who represent the country internationally.

Also present was FABD General Secretary Mohammad Shahnon bin Haji Mohd Salleh along with executive committee members.
