Expo promotes higher education institutions

The Ministry of Education (MoE) through the Higher Education Division, Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) and Scholarship Section launched the Higher Education Expo 2020 at Bridex Hall 1 and 2 in Jerudong yesterday.

Minister of Education Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman officiated the expo as the guest of honour. He later visited the booths and interacted with expo participants.

The two-day Higher Education Expo 2020 which ends today, saw exhibitions and consultation booths as well as talks, seminars and forums from government agencies, local institutions and associations.

These included sharing knowledge on personal skills like personal statements and curriculum vitae writing, tips on interviews; higher education pathways including HECAS application, scholarship and life-long learning opportunities; new programmes offered in higher education; future career opportunities and motivational forums on entrepreneurship.

This is the fifth Higher Education Expo organised by the MoE. The expo’s primary focus is to act as a ‘One Stop Information Centre’ for higher education which unites all post-secondary educational institutions, government and private institutions of higher education as well as local and foreign education agencies under one roof providing an overview on the landscape of post-secondary education and higher education.

The objective is also to promote multiple pathways to higher education and educational opportunities available locally and abroad, and expected to be the foundation to facilitate students who wish to increase the level of study and to interact directly with the institutions and educational agencies.

A total of 83 institutions of higher learning, educational service agencies and government and private agencies are participating in this year’s expo comprising 13 public and private higher education institutions, 36 foreign educational institutions, 23 government and private agencies, eight local and international education services agencies and three missions and overseas representatives.

Among the local government higher education institutions are Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB), Politeknik Brunei (PB) and IBTE.

Meanwhile the private higher education institutions include Laksamana College of Business, Kolej International Graduate Studies (KIGS), Cosmopolitan College of Commerce and Technology (CCCT), Micronet International College (MIC), Kemuda Institute, BICPA – FTMS Accountancy Academy and Mahakarya Institute of the Arts.

These institutions introduced the programmes offered, the terms of admission, registration procedures and information related to the institutions.

The MoE is also sharing latest and relevant information such as the HECAS, government scholarships, Education Loan Assistance Scheme (SBPP), sharing of selection and recruitment of teachers, application for the recognition of courses/approvals, careers and others.

The MoE is also represented by the Higher Education Division, Scholarship Section, Secretariat of Brunei Darussalam National Accreditation Council, Lifelong Learning Centre and the Counselling and Career Division from Department of Schools. Also participating in the expo are other government and private agencies.

The expo is open to the public, especially secondary and pre-university post-graduates, Brunei GCE ‘O’ Level and ‘A’ Level or equivalent, who intend to pursue higher education such as National Technical Education Certificate (NTec), Higher National Technical Education Certificate (HNTec), Diploma Level 5, Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree and PhDas well as those who wish to develop their skills or professionalism.

It is also not limited to students or local visitors, but welcomes overseas visitors wishing to pursue studies at institutions in the country.
