Expo aims to boost business skills of underprivileged communities

THE Islamic Da’wah Centre is preparing to host the ‘Souq Al-Qudwah’, a four-day expo in conjunction with the 73rd birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

This was announced at a press conference by Director of Islamic Da’wah Centre and Chairman of the ‘Souq Al-Qudwah’ Haji Abdul Rajid bin Haji Mohd Salleh yesterday.

He explained that the event is jointly organised by the Islamic Da’wah Centre and the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB), with the support of Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD), as a self-empowering platform for underprivileged communities such as Zakat and welfare recipients, people with different abilities, new Muslim converts and jobseekers.

Among the planned activities will be a motivational talk titled ‘Empower Entrepreneurship among Tithe Recipients’ from the Head of Government Relations and Special Projects of BIBD Haji Mohd Yusri bin Haji Wahsalfelah; talks from Livewire and the Ministry of Education; a sharing session by Muslim convert and entrepreneur Norhaziah binti Abdullah; and a BIBD entrepreneurship clinic.

There will also be an opening ceremony for the Consortium of Muallafpreneurs (Muslim Convert Entrepreneurs) and the Al-Qudwah Store.

The ‘Souq Al-Qudwah’ will be officially opened by Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman at the Islamic Da’wah Centre tomorrow.

Open to the public from 3pm, the expo will be held from 9am to 9pm until Sunday.

The ‘Souq Al-Qudwah’ embodies the ‘Whole-of-Nation-Approach’, with the joint collaboration of the MUIB, the Community Development Department, the Youth Development Centre and Pusat Bahagia, and BIBD, via the smart partnership programme with the Islamic Da’wah Centre.
