Exploring the unseen

The Survey Department at the Ministry of Development (MoD) in collaboration with Brunei Institution of Geomatics (BIG) celebrated World Geographic Information System (GIS) Day during Bandarku Ceria at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien in the capital yesterday.

Permanent Secretary (Planning, Land Use and Environment) at the MoD Dr Nor Imtihan binti Haji Abdul Razak was the guest of honour at the event themed ‘Explore the Unseen with GIS’.

Deputy Permanent Secretary (Corporate and Law) at the MoD Aldila binti Haji Mohamad Salleh, BIG President Haji Ali Bakar bin Haji Kasim, MoD heads of departments, officers and staff of the Survey Department as well as BIG members were also present.

Event participants joined games and activities such as observing the Sun, guessing games and puzzles with prizes.

There were also an exhibition of several apps, maps, house numbering, simpang labelling and address verification system.

GIS Day is held annually on November 16 with gatherings to celebrate the work of GIS professionals and inspire future innovators that will advance global progress using the information system.
