TEN former Form 5 Science 2 (1972) students of Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien College (SOASC) gathered to meet their former class teacher Sara, who is in Brunei for a visit, at the Seasons Restaurant yesterday.

“Sara, who is working at the Brunei High Commission in London, was coming over to Brunei for a visit, thus hearing this we decided to take the opportunity to host a reunion for him today,” said Hajah Rokiah binti Haji Ludin.

Apart from reminiscing their school days with Sara and fellow classmates, the reunion also served as an appreciation for Sara who taught them English Language when they were in Form 4 and 5.

Everyone was happy to meet up with him together with a number of classmates who were able to come including Sara while sharing their bittersweet memories during their school years and catching up with each other’s life.

“Sara taught us English in Form 4 and 5 for our GCE ‘O’ Level in 1972. When he started teaching us, he was a young man in his early thirties who just arrived in Brunei and we were his first group of overseas students,” said Hajah Rokiah. The former students/classmates have known Sara as a kind and dedicated person. He was always committed to improving his students’ English Language skills and was very patient with them as most of them were quite a handful for a teacher at that time as they were good students but not the most behaved.

“Sara was happy to see us. It is amazing that he still remembers our names and faces. He asked by name about those who couldn’t come.

“He was very touched that his students still remember him and organised the gathering for him,” Hajah Rokiah added.
