Event to shed light on ASEAN diplomacy

FOURTEEN participants from higher education institutions left the Sultanate to participate in the 5th ASEAN Foundation Model ASEAN Meeting 2019 (AFMAM) in Bangkok, Thailand.

The participants comprise nine representatives, eight students and one advisor from Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB); four representatives, three students and one advisor from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD); and a student from Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA).

The 5th AFMAM is organised by the ASEAN Foundation and scheduled to take place at Chulalongkorn University from July 4-9. The programme aims to allow students to understand diplomacy and how decision-makers of ASEAN member states address regional issues at the various ASEAN meetings. The trip also involves on-site coaching workshops, simulations exercises and institutional visit.

Meanwhile, three UTB students left Brunei to participate in the Nanjing International Youth Exchange Programme (NIYEP 2019) from July 4-22 in Nanjing, China.

The students are in their third year degree programme in Civil Engineering.

The programme is organised by the Nanjing Foreign Affairs Office. Participants will start a short internship at local companies while experiencing Chinese culture and historical relics in Nanjing.
