Some 49 participants, comprising takmir mosque committee members and mosque youth from nine mosques in the Temburong District, attended a one-day first aid course on September 24 with a presentation of certificates to mark its completion at Utama Muhammad Salleh Mosque, Pekan Bangar yesterday.

The course, organised by McDonald’s Brunei in collaboration with the Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Society (BRC) dubbed ‘First Aider @ Masjid’ programme, was a collaboration through Intelligence Partnership Agreement (BRC IPA) programme with Makan Ceria Sdn Bhd.

Acting Temburong District Officer Pengiran Muhammad Ameer Mubaarak bin Pengiran Haji Hashim handed over the certificates.

McDonald’s Brunei Public Safety and Well-being Cultivating Community Project was aimed as an added value to basic safety at mosques by providing first aid services; provide first aid equipment at the mosque; train officers and members of the mosque maintenance committee with basic first aid training and basic lifesaving training; and issuing certificates to mosques and first aiders at every mosque.

The programme is also expected to equip mosques as centres of worship and to ensure they are safe and ready for emergencies.

Makan Ceria Sdn Bhd General Manager Mohamad Al-Fatah bin Haji Seruji said, “The programme is in line with McDonald’s core value and part of the initiatives to foster closer ties with the community.

“At the same time, the programme is also to support the Ministry of Health’s initiatives through a whole-of-nation approach while addressing non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and pre-mature fatality in Brunei Darussalam.”
