Envoy hails LegCo members involvement in addressing climate change issues

Legislative Council (LegCo) Speaker Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib received a courtesy visit from British High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam John Virgoe at the LegCo Building yesterday.

Both sides expressed appreciation for the close ties and cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and the United Kingdom (UK) and hoped the relations continue to strengthen, especially in the fields of law, defence, trade, investment and education.

In addition, both sides also hoped that parliamentary cooperation between two parties will continue to grow and exchange of visits will be possible after the COVID-19 pandemic is under control.

Virgoe complimented the involvement of LegCo members in addressing climate change issues, saying that with their participation, it can encourage the public to be more sensitive and caring towards the environment.

They also discussed matters of mutual concern relating to the COVID-19 outbreak, during which Virgoe said Brunei Darussalam has taken firm measures to curb the spread and hoped that all parties in the UK and other countries can find a solution to control it.

Secretary to the Cabinet Minister’s Council and Clerk to the LegCo Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Jaya Dato Paduka Haji Judin bin Haji Asar was also present.
