Thirty members of the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) Business Campus Environmental Club paid an educational visiting to Kampong Menunggol as part of the ‘Explore Nature Brunei’ activity recently.

The trip heightened awareness on environment preservation, including the socio-cultural, ecological and economic aspects.

Local guide Mohd Yusri bin Bakir and his ‘Brunei Siuk’ team led the group as they discovered the village life and trekked to Bukit Bujang Pahang. They were shown the ‘air panchor’ of the early days, before passing the old coal mine cave and ‘kelawar’ cave. A unique stone formation called ‘Batu Bepangkat’ can be found near the cave.

Atop Bukit Bujang Pahang, the group were afforded a picturesque view of Brunei Bay, Temburong and caught a glimpse of the neighbouring border, Limbang.

The environmental outing included tours to historical places such as Lumut Lunting, Pulau Bunian, Pulau Ayam, Pulau Berambang, passing Sungai Riong and Sungai Menunggol Laut along the way.

The group also enjoyed a boat ride along Sungai Bunga to view the Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saiffuddien’ Bridge, Kampong Pudak, Sungai Matan, Kampong Dato Gandi and Kampong Pelambaian before heading back to Sungai Lampai jetty.

The Environmental Club aims to create awareness on environmental issues such as protection, conservation, preservation, and restoration, with an emphasis on educating and empowering its members.
