Entrepreneurs get capital boost to run businesses

A total of 17 Bekarih entrepreneurs of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah inked an agreement to receive business capital assistance under the Welfare Financing Scheme to help improve self-sufficiency through entrepreneurship by developing their businesses.

The signing ceremony, held at the Yayasan Headquarters in Jalan Perdana Menteri, saw Permanent Secretary (Planning, Land Use and Environment) at the Ministry of Development Dr Nor Imtihan binti Haji Abdul Razak as Yayasan Acting Managing Director and Assistant Managing Director Haji Musthapa bin Haji Matahir signing for Yayasan.

Prior to being considered recipients of the scheme, the entrepreneurs were required to undergo several training programmes by Yayasan and LiveWIRE Brunei, aimed at honing their entrepreneurial skills and knowledge.

The Welfare Financing Scheme is a self-empowerment assistance programme for target groups in need of capital injection. Certain criteria and suitability must be met for applicants to be selected to join the scheme.

Since the scheme was first implemented in 2013, 84 Bekarih entrepreneurs have been produced, involving in several types of enterprises such as food and beverage, agriculture, vehicle cleaning and repair services, manufacturing of furniture and handicrafts among others.
