Employee Wellness Initiative eyes happier, healthier workforce

In its efforts to promote work-life balance and an overall healthier workforce, Baiduri Bank launched the Employee Wellness Initiative at Baiduri Community Space (BCS) at its Headquarters, 1 Jalan Gadong on Wednesday.

The initiative, held in collaboration with the Health Promotion Centre (HPC) at the Ministry of Health (MoH), aimed to encourage employees of the bank and its subsidiary companies to take care of their physical health and mental wellbeing. The launch is the first of the initiative’s two phases.

The initial phase provided Baiduri employees with free basic health screening conducted by doctors and nurses from the HPC. This included checking blood pressure, body mass index, blood sugar level and cholesterol level.

Clinical psychologists, also from the HPC, highlighted the importance of caring for both physical and mental well-being at home as well as in the office. Local vendors, such as Fuel’d and Iced Milo Cup Brunei, sponsored food and drinks for Baiduri staff as well as staff from the HPC.

The bank also introduced its own wellness ambassadors – employees who are advocating a wellness culture among colleagues. These ambassadors will undergo training supported by the HPC aimed at equipping them with the knowledge and skills to promote healthier lifestyle.

The first phase of the initiative continued over the next few days at Baiduri Community Space, allowing employees based at various other locations to take advantage of the health screening.

In the second phase, the bank will introduce more programmes in partnership with local health experts and organisations geared towards engaging its employees in group-based fitness games and activities. These will include educational aspects such as health awareness campaigns, seminars and quizzes.

The second phase aims to build on existing after-work activities the bank provides and continue to nurture camaraderie and teamwork among employees.

Baiduri Bank CEO Ti Eng Hui said the Employee Wellness Initiative recognises the need to promote healthy well-being as it can have many benefits, including healthier and happier employees and lower absenteeism due to illness.
