His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has called on Muslims to embrace the constant habit of reading Al-Quran to attain blessings and protection.

Delivering a titah yesterday, at the finals of the National Al-Quran Reading Competition for Adults 1442 Hijrah/2021 at the International Convention Centre (ICC), His Majesty expressed hope for Bruneians to embrace Al-Quran reading as a permanent way of life: “It means that every generation, whether those of the present or the future, will be a generation of Al-Quran readers.

“How glorious this country would be, if this hope was realised. If Al-Quran was constantly read by the citizens and residents alike, there can be no doubt that this country would receive blessings, as Al-Quran is manifestly a radiant light.

“The radiance of Al-Quran is not like that of a lamp or lantern, but it is capable of illuminating the heart and soul, even in the afterlife.

“Who would not want to be illuminated by such radiance? I believe that every one of us would be delighted to have it.”

Earlier in the titah, the monarch said, “There are many ways for us to gain blessings from Al-Quran, including reading, memorising and understanding the contents.

“Blessings can also be gained by reading the sacred verses of Al-Quran to protect and heal us from various diseases and disasters, as instructed in Verse 82 of Surah Al-Isra’, which translates to ‘And We send down in Al-Quran that which is a cure and mercy for the faithful’. In Brunei, we are observing and abiding by these instructions to avert the coronavirus outbreak, alongside standard operating procedure as an ‘integrated shield’. Alhamdulillah, by means of this shield, Brunei Darussalam appears to be surrounded by extraordinary blessings, which keep it safe from the pandemic.

“This is truly a remarkable situation, which we should not take for granted. I am personally confident that any strain of virus capable of causing an outbreak would be powerless against the sacred verses of Al-Quran.

“Therefore, as Muslims, we should never loosen our hold of Al-Quran, which means that we should never cease from reading it.”
