Embassy marks 95th anniversary of CPLA

The Chinese Embassy in Brunei Darussalam held a dinner reception to celebrate the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (CPLA) at Tarindak D’Seni in the capital yesterday.

Present as the guest of honour was Acting Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Brigadier General (U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Mohd Sharif bin Dato Paduka Haji Ibrahim and spouse Datin Noraidah binti Haji Ibrahim.

On hand to welcome the guest of honour was Ambassador of China to Brunei Darussalam Yu Hong.

China Defence Attaché in Brunei Senior Colonel Dai Qilin reviewed the history of the CPLA since its founding and the contributions of the CPLA in safeguarding national sovereignty, territorial integrity and development interests.

China adheres to the path of peaceful development and pursues an independent foreign policy of peace and a national defence policy that is defensive in nature.

CPLA has taken part in United Nations peacekeeping operations, the escort mission in the Gulf of Aden and international cooperation against the COVID-19 pandemic, fulfilling international obligations with action, and contributing to global peace and development.

Senior Colonel Dai Qilin said the military relations between China and Brunei are an important part of the strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries.

The CPLA and the RBAF have always maintained friendly relations. China is ready to work with Brunei to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, continue to enrich the forms and contents of military exchanges, expand and deepen cooperation in various fields, and work for a higher level of military relations.

A documentary was also played which highlighted China’s participation in UN peacekeeping operations titled For Peace and an album titled Development of China’s National Defense and the Armed Forces in the New Era 2012-2022.

The event continued with a cake-cutting ceremony and souvenir presentation by Ambassador Yu Hong to Brigadier General (U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Mohd Sharif.
