Elderly injured in kitchen fire

A 62-year-old Bruneian woman of Filipino descent was injured following a fire in her kitchen in Kampong Terunjing on Tuesday morning.

She was rushed to Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital for treatment.

Five firefighters from Lambak Kanan Fire Station led by Watch Commander of ‘B’ Team ASO Haji Wahab bin Wahid, responded to a distress call at around 4.24am and found the kitchen of the bungalow on fire, according to the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD).

The fire was brought under control using water jet hose.

The cause and the estimated damages are being investigated.

The FRD advised the public to ensure their homes are equipped with a fire extinguisher, fire blanket and battery-operated smoke detector, while wirings and electrical appliance installation should be done by qualified technicians workers.

The public is also urged to always switch off electrical appliances when not in use.

Gas regulators should be unplugged when not in use and should be replaced every five years and the gas hose every two years, according to Brunei Shell Marketing (BSM) standards.
