Elderly and OKU given priority, says minister

The welfare and comfort of senior citizens and persons with different abilities (OKU) in dealing with the Immigration and National Registeration Department are given significant attention. The comfort of senior citizens when receiving services at the department is always prioritised, such as the availability of special service counters for senior citizens and OKU to ensure shorter waiting times.

Minister of Home Affairs Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman said this in response to a suggestion from Legislative Council (LegCo) member Yang Berhormat Lau How Teck on the fifth day of the 20th session of the LegCo meeting at the LegCo Bbilding yesterday.

Yang Berhormat Lau said amid digital transformation, step-by-step guidelines with a friendly interface should be provided, especially for senior citizens, to ease usage and ensure smoother service.

The minister meanwhile said those not proficient in using new applications or systems introduced by the Ministry of Home Affairs should use the service counters available at departments under the ministry.

He added, “The ministry will continue to take the needs of senior citizens into account at all departments.” – Adib Noor
