AS THE nation celebrated the 73rd birthday of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on Monday, eight couples welcomed their newborns into the world.
The first infant to be delivered during the auspicious celebrations was a girl born at 12.42am, in the Belait District.
The last was a boy born at 4.35pm, in the Brunei-Muara District.
Yesterday, a presentation of gifts to mark the occasion was held at the Women and Children’s Centre of the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital, where the guest of honour was Datin Paduka Hajah Jahrah binti Haji Mohamad, the spouse of the Minister of Home Affairs (MoHA).
During the presentation ceremony, each of the parents received a BND50 voucher, a certificate, a family portrait with their newborns, and a BND100 baby’s savings account – Akaun Si Manja – from Perbadanan TAIB.
The parents also received gifts of baby hampers from Pengiran Datin Norzana binti Pengiran Haji Rosli, the spouse of the Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy (Fiscal) and Deputy Chairman of the Perbadanan TAIB Board of Directors.
Also present at the event were the spouses of the Permanent Secretary and Deputy Permanent Secretary at the MoHA, the spouses of the Deputy Permanent Secretaries at the Ministry of Health (MoH), and the spouses of Legislative Council (LegCo) members.
Meanwhile, a similar ceremony was held at the Suri Seri Begawan (SSB) Hospital in Belait District, where the guest of honour was Hajah Siti Raudah Hazimah binti Haji Abdul Wahab, the spouse of the Permanent Secretary (Municipal and District) at the MoHA.
The parents of the newborns received gifts from the guest of honour, and also from Senior Manager at the Support Service Department of Perbadanan TAIB Hajah Raisah binti Pengarah Haji Buntar.
Six infants were born on July 15 in the Brunei-Muara District, with five delivered at the RIPAS Hospital and one at the Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC).
Meanwhile, in the Belait District, two infants were born at the SSB Hospital.
No births were recorded that day in the Tutong and Temburong districts.
