Before the previous generation 4 Series Coupé, Convertible and M4 models were created, they were known as the 3 Series Coupe, Convertible and M3 Coupe. BMW created the 4 Series range to make these sportier models more distinct from its 3 Series siblings. But design-wise, they remain similar.
The same cannot be said for the all-new BMW 4 Series Coupé though; its styling is markedly different, for it has the largest pair of kidney grilles on any modern BMW.
The large, vertically emphasised BMW kidney grille angles forwards and extends down almost to the lower edge of the front apron. Its standard air intakes have a mesh structure of the sort only previously seen on M models.
Full-LED headlights are fitted as standard, while the BMW Laserlight is available as an option.
The dynamically stretched proportions of the all-new BMW 4 Series Coupé are the result of greater exterior dimensions than its predecessor.
Length has increased by 128 millimetres (mm) to 4,768mm, width by 27mm to 1,852mm and the wheelbase by 41mm to 2,851mm. Vehicle height is up by just 6mm, to 1,383mm, making the car 57mm lower than the new BMW 3 Series Sedan.
Its tracks have increased in width over the previous generation model’s – by 28mm at the front and 18mm at the rear – and are also 23mm wider than those of the latest BMW 3 Series Sedan.
Standard equipment for the BMW 4 Series Coupe includes BMW Live Cockpit Professional, sports seats and a newly designed three-spoke steering wheel. A welcome light carpet, ambient lighting and three-zone automatic climate control are all also standard.
As expected, the BMW 4 Series Coupe has a raft of advanced driver assistance systems. These include parking assistant with reversing assistant, lane departure warning with lane return and front collision warning with brake intervention.
Optionally available systems include Parking Assistant Plus, which includes surround view and remote 3D review, along with Driving Assistant Professional. The latter adds steering and lane control assistant with active navigation. This uses navigation data to detect required lane changes.
Cleanly designed surfaces, high-quality materials and the driver-focussed layout of the cockpit define the premium ambience and singularly performance-centric interior design of the all-new BMW 4 Series Coupé.
Together with the coordinated design of the instrument panel and door panel trim, the high-set centre console generates an enveloping environment for the front seat occupants. The standard acoustic glass for the windscreen further improves comfort over long distances.
The all-new BMW 4 Series Coupé boasts remarkably sporty performance characteristics and superior efficiency following an extensive upgrade.
QAF Auto is bringing in the 420i M Sport model which comes equipped with eight-speed automatic gearboxes and rear-wheel-drive. It is powered by turbocharged two-litre four-cylinder engines offering 184hp and 300Nm, and a century sprint time of 7.5 seconds.
For the Brunei market, the M Sport comes with features such as extra-large air intakes at the front and a prominently contoured rear apron, M Sport suspension, M light-alloy wheels and other specially designed interior elements. Exterior elements can also be specified in carbon fibre to add some motorsports flair with the M Carbon exterior package.
The standard fitted BMW Live Cockpit Professional features a fully digital screen grouping comprising a digital instrument cluster behind the steering wheel with a screen diagonal of 12.3 inches and a 10.25-inch control display.
The fully digital instrument display in the cockpit provides sufficient room to accommodate an excerpt from the navigation map, status indicators for the driver assistance systems or 3D visualisation of the surrounding area. The driver and passengers will also benefit from the enhanced options for intuitive operation and the innovative digital services brought by the inclusion of BMW Operating System 7.0 in the all-new BMW 4 Series Coupé.
The standard-fit BMW Intelligent Voice Control with added functions rounds up the suite of interaction with the vehicle.
The BMW Live Cockpit Professional system also comes with optimised smartphone integration. Alongside wireless Apple CarPlay, the operating system for the all-new BMW 4 Series Coupé now also hosts wireless Android Auto.
The all-new BMW 4 Series Coupé is now available for viewing at the refurbished QAF Auto showroom in Beribi.
