A Dusun family of five embraced Islam as part of a conversion ceremony at the Dakwah Unit Office, Kuala Belait.
Following the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, the ceremony began with the head of the family, Subli bin Bungah, reciting syahadah and adopting his new Muslim name, Subli bin Abdullah Bungah. This was followed by his wife and three sons – Dusun binti Beniah, Safereman bin Subli, Syimirikhwan bin Subli and Firdaus Ashura bin Subli – reciting syahadah and embracing their new Muslim names Nur Darayani binti Muhd Baktiar @ Dusun binti Beniah, Muhamad Aiman bin Subli @ Safereman bin Subli, Muhammad Amir Ikhwan bin Subli @ Syimirikhwan bin Subli and Firdaus Ashura bin Subli respectively.
Following the ceremony, gifts were presented, before the sprinkling of bunga rambai and a Dikir Marhaban. The ceremony also marked Subli’s 75th birthday.
Legislative Council member and Village Head of Kampong Bukit Sawat Yang Berhormat Mohammad bin Abdullah @ Lim Swee Ann was the guest of honour, accompanied by Islamic Da’wah Centre (PDI) Director Haji Abdul Rajid bin Haji Mohd Salleh at the ceremony.
According to the PDI, 220 individuals have embraced Islam in 2024 thus far, 53 of them from the Dusun community. – Daniel Lim
