A local citizen and a permanent resident pleaded guilty in the Intermediate Court to charges of mischief and housebreaking for theft yesterday.
Prosecutor Hajah ‘Adzimah Mukarramah binti Haji Salleh’s revealed that Muhammad Adib Abdul Basit bin Haji Puteh, 32, and Haji Masirwan bin Mazlan, 36, were involved in a house break-in at Kampong Dato Gandi, Jalan Kota Batu at 11.15pm on September 9 for theft, and committing mischief by causing damage to a CCTV installed at the house.
The break-in was planned after the two men learned that the house, had been unoccupied for three days.
Using a ladder, they entered the neighbour’s house through a window on the first floor.
Once inside, they used a broomstick to smash a CCTV installed above the sliding door leading to a hallway.
Entering the hallway, they went on to ransack the bedrooms.
They took a backpack containing a laptop computer in a protective case, as well as a designer handbag with a wallet, before fleeing the scene.
The next day, the house owner returned to find the doors ajar and the bedrooms ransacked.
While checking the CCTV camera which had recorded images of the defendants, he also found that they had caused damage to it.
He filed a police report, which led to the pair’s arrest. Judge Muhammed Faisal bin Pehin Dato Haji Kefli fixed September 26 as the date for the sentencing.
