I would like to respond to the letters regarding the spike in beef prices that have been in the opinion pages lately.
I believe that due to the shortage of meat products, the suppliers have been able to increase the prices, leading to restaurant owners agonising over the raising of prices in the menu themselves.
However, what’s worse is the total lack of duck in the country. I was at a restaurant over a month ago for my favourite roasted duck when the owner told me that I would be hard pressed to find it anywhere in the country.
I’m not sure if we have a duck farm dedicated to supplying to local restaurants. Or if like the writers of the letters said, it would be more expensive. But I hope the authorities could take a serious look at the meat shortages and come up with a sustainable plan for the near future.
