Some 70.4 kilogrammes (kg) of chicken tails and wings of dubious origins were confiscated during a joint operation by enforcement officers from the Halal Food Control Division of the Syariah Affairs Department at the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) and the Royal Customs and Excise Department (RCED) in Kampong Kiarong on Monday night.
The operation uncovered 60.4kg of chicken tail and 10kg of chicken wings stored in a vehicle’s trunk believed to have been brought into Brunei Darussalam without a halal import permit. The meat was confiscated and the case handed over to RCED.
The MoRA reminded businesses wishing to bring in raw halal meat to the Sultanate to obtain a halal import permit from the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) in addition to other requirements of other agencies for importation of meat.
This is to ensure that meat imported into and sold in the country, especially among Muslims, is guaranteed halal.
The ministry thanked the public for sharing information on activities involving dubious meat to safeguard the interests of the Muslim community in the country.
