An under-aged child suspected of being used for drug trafficking activities was detained along with several others when Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) personnel raided three separate homes in Kampong Saba on July 29.
Of the 12 suspects, nine are locals and the others permanent residents. Nine are males and three females aged between 16 and 57.
The arrested are from two families, including the under-aged child, believed to be used for drug trafficking activities.
Among the items seized during the arrest at both residences were plastic packages containing small and large pieces of crystallised substances believed to be methylamphetamine or syabu, a Class A controlled drug weighing over 17 grammes with a market value of over BND3,000.
Also found were utensils believed to be used for drug consumption, a digital weighing scale, an empty straw, plastic packets and mobile phones believed to be used for drug activities. Other seized items included over BND5,000, jewellery, electronic appliances and two cars believed to be proceeds from drug activities.
Investigations are ongoing under various sections of the Misuse of Drugs Acts (MDA). One suspect is being investigated under Section 3A of the MDA, Chapter 27 for the possession for the purpose of trafficking of a controlled drug which carries a minimum penalty of five years of imprisonment and five strokes and a maximum penalty of 20 years of imprisonment and 15 strokes.
All suspects are being investigated under Section 6(b) of the MDA, Chapter 27 for the consumption of controlled drugs that carries a penalty of imprisonment of up to 10 years or a fine of BND20,000 or both.
One suspect is being investigated under Section 7 of the MDA, Chapter 27 for the possession of utensils used for drug consumption which carries a penalty of imprisonment of up to three years or a BND10,000 fine or both.
One suspect is being investigated under Section 9 of the MDA, Chapter 27 for allowing the premises to be used for the consumption or unlawful trafficking of controlled drugs which carries a minimum penalty of two years of imprisonment or a BND4,000 fine and a maximum penalty of 10 years of imprisonment or a BND40,000 fine or both.
Seven suspects are being investigated under Section 10 of the MDA, Chapter 27 for abetment and attempts of abetment of offences under the MDA, Chapter 27.
Three suspects are being investigated under Section 3 of the Criminal Asset Recovery Order 2012 for the offence of money laundering which carries a fine not exceeding BND500,000 imprisonment for a term not exceeding 10 years or both.
