The High Court on Wednesday dismissed a drug abuser’s application for a reduction in his sentence citing hardships to his family.
Chief Justice Dato Seri Paduka Steven Chong saw no merit in Mohamad Sulkanain bin Suleiman’s appeal against a three-years’ jail sentence handed by the Magistrate’s Court.
The sentence came after he pleaded guilty on December 19, 2022 to a charge of consuming methylamphetamine.
Prosecutor Syafina Abdul Hadzid, having prosecuted the case, as respondent in the appeal revealed that Mohamad Sulkanain was arrested by Narcotics Control Bureau officers on April 2, 2021 along with seven other men. This was by the road along the Belait river banks, where the authorities had suspected them of carrying out drug-related activities. – Fadley Faisal
