Drug abuse prevention programmes will build resilient community: BASMIDA

Izah Azahari

Drug abuse prevention programmes and activities will build a community that is aware of the dangers of drug abuse and create resilience in dealing with its problems and issues.

This was said by National Anti-Drug Association (BASMIDA) Vice President Hajah Linda Aini binti Abdullah during a drug abuse prevention programme at the association’s headquarters in Kampong Anggerek Desa last December 26.

Hajah Linda Aini, the chairwoman of the event, spoke on BASMIDA’s role in organising drug abuse prevention programmes and activities.

“Prevention is important as it is one of the efforts that is hoped to create awareness by providing the community with knowledge and understanding on the dangers of drugs and the risk of drug abuse, as well as knowing about the impact of drug abuse on individuals, families, society and the country.”

She added that inculcating a tradition of anti-drug talks and activities is a big step towards achieving the goal.

“Hopefully, the anti-drug lecture delivered will be beneficial for all and will be successful in creating awareness on the dangers and effects of drug abuse.”

The event also saw an anti-drug talk by Pengiran Kamarul Zaman bin Pengiran Haji Chuchu, focussing on prevention through six approaches: the individual self, family institution, basic health, knowledge and spirituality, laws and regulations in the country, and safety.

To further enliven the event, a number of activities, such as slogan colouring, anti-drug creative mind drawing, colouring activities for those aged eight and under and an anti-drug quiz, were also held.
