The Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Ministers’ Meeting welcomed the improvement proposals from the Mid-Term Review (MTR) of the BIMP-EAGA Vision 2025 (BEV 2025) as a driver towards economic recovery and the achievement of three main results, clean and environmentally friendly manufacturing; competitive and resilient agricultural and fisheries industries to climate change; and as a tourist destination of various developed countries.

The 25th BIMP-EAGA Ministers’ Meeting and BIMP-EAGA Ministers’ Retreat was attended by Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy (Economy) Dato Seri Paduka Haji Khairuddin bin Haji Abdul Hamid. The meeting was held in Pontianak, Kalimantan, Indonesia on November 25 and 26.

The MTR also suggested strengthening the capacity of BIMP-EAGA institutions to further improve coordination and delivery of results in this sub-region. The meeting also emphasised BIMP-EAGA’s commitment to fully implement BEV 2025.

The next meeting voiced the need for BIMP-EAGA to start creating the foundations for the BIMP-EAGA Post 2025 agenda. The meeting also welcomed the Chief Ministers, Governors and Local Government Forum (CMGLF) to be reactivated.

The meeting was preceded by the 30th BIMP-EAGA Senior Officers Meeting on November 24, attended by Deputy Permanent Secretary (Trade and Industry) at the Ministry of Finance and Economy Mohammad Harris bin Brigadier General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Haji Ibrahim.

Established in 1994, BIMP-EAGA is an initiative between Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines to accelerate socio-economic development in this sub-region.
