KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) – A personal driver pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court yesterday on a charge of causing hurt to his wife by hitting her on the head using an iron and connecting plug, last year.
R Chandra Mohan, 41, made the plea after the charge was read to him before Sessions Judge Emelia Kaswati Mohamad Khalid.
The man was charged with deliberately causing hurt to the 34-year-old woman by hitting her on the head using the iron and extension plug at a house in Bandar Baru Sentul at 1.30am, on December 29, 2018.
He was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code which was read together with Section 326A of the same code which allocated a maximum 20-year jail or with fine or caning or any two of the punishments, if found guilty.
Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Aishah Ahmad did not offer any bail but the accused who was represented by lawyer M Mathavan urged the court to provide bail citing his client was the sole breadwinner.
‘’My client works as a personal driver with an income of RM2,500 a month and has to support a nine-month-old child and wife. So, I urge a bail be allowed,’’ he said.
The court allowed the accused to be bailed RM5,000 in one surety on the additional condition he was barred from disturbing the prosecution witness and victim and fixed January 17 for re-mention of case.
