Drastic measures needed to keep rule-breakers at home

I would like to respond to an opinion letter on ‘Call for hefty fine of Operasi Pulih violators’, published in the Bulletin on October 9.

It’s been almost two weeks since the introduction of the movement control measure, and every day, there seems to be people who can’t stay home after a certain time.

Perhaps on top of a BND500 fine, as the writer suggested, the authorities could look into various other ways to deter these individuals, such as shaming them in public by publishing their identities in the media, and barring them from entering shops and places of worship.

Many of us are complying with the health directive to flatten the curve. But sadly, there remain a number of people who simply can’t see the bigger picture.
