DPMM FC scored a dramatic late winner to down 10-man Tanjong Pagar United 2-1 in the Singapore Premier League at the Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore last night.
Local star Hakeme Yazid bin Said’s match-winner seven minutes from time separated the two sides and helped his team to a third win of the season.
Forward Andrei Varankou put the Bruneians in the ascendancy with a 34th minute effort before the Jaguars found a route back in the game through Marin Mudrazija.
The game sprung to life as Hakeme’s well-thought free-kick caught the entire Tanjong Pagar off guard as he sent a clever pass into the path of Abdul Azizi bin Ali Rahman.
Abdul Azizi goal-bound effort appeared to be handled on the line by Pedro Dias, who was shown the red card for his troubles.
Andrei Varankou missed his initial penalty but made no mistake with the rebound to add on to the visitors’ woes.
The designated hosts spurned a wonderful chance for a two-goal cushion but Abdul Azizi fluffed his lines from close range with a ferocious low cross from Varankou begging to be turned in for a goal.
The short-handed visitors capitalised from a suicidal clearance by Najip bin Tarif with Marin outjumping his marker to head home the equaliser. However, there was to be another turn in the game as Hakeme Yazid took advantage of an error from Tanjong Pagar goalkeeper Kenji Syed Rusydi to slot the ball home into an empty net.
The Brunei side finished with 10 men after substitute Hirzi Zulfaqar bin Mahzan was sent off for a second bookable offence a minute from time.
DPMM FC are now three points off the pace from the top five teams in the Singapore top flight with 10 points to their name.
The Brunei outfit will face Lion City Sailors next at the same venue this Saturday.
