DPMM FC keep hopes of under-16 league title alive

DPMM FC kept their hopes of sealing a NFABD Under-16 Youth League title alive after a convincing 4-0 victory over basement dwellers PMS Junior at the Jerudong Park Mini Stadium last Sunday.

The league leaders have second-placed Tabuan, who emerged as strong favourites after putting Rimba Star to the sword with an emphatic 7-0 win, breathing down their necks. But, they did not succumb to the pressure and victory ensured contention for the title.

The last two matches had no doubt been tricky tests for the Jerudong-based side after edging Hawa FT 1-0 before rallying from a goal down to defeat a highly-spirited Projek Ikan Pusu.

The trend seemed to continue until DPMM FC broke PMS resilience five minutes before the break when team captain Md Danish Syariee bin Md Masrazni struck.

Awangku Mohd Syafiq Hilmi bin Pengiran Md Shahrom doubled his side’s lead a minute later before Muhd Wafiq Danish bin Md Hasimulabdilah made it 3-0 in the 27th minute.

The young Gegar Gegar men got a fourth after Awangku Mohd Syafiq Hilmi bagged his brace in the 39th minute.

Having just dropped four points in the entire season, DPMM FC currently lead the 11-team table with 53 points, four points clear of second-placed Tabuan. However, title rivals Tabuan boast comfort with two games in hand and they will pip them by a single point if they win those matches heading into the final league fixture of the season.

Meanwhile in another match, Bang Dalam FC edged Setia Perdana 2-1 in a thrilling encounter at the Tutong Sports Complex.

Setia Perdana took the lead through Mohd Faizul Izwan bin Abdullah Mohd Irwan in the 25th minute.

However, the tie turned on its head as Addy Affandy bin Ariffin converted a penalty in the 33rd minute before Azrinol Azril bin Girrah’s decisive strike in the 45th minute proved to be the winner.
