Government bodies and associations continue to hand out donations as the clock ticks down to Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Belait District Officer cum guest of honour Ramlee bin Haji Jamudin, Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) Managing Director Agnete Johnsgaard-Lewis, BSP Deputy Managing Director and Technical Director Yap Kong Fah presented donations to 345 orphans in a ceremony at the Kuala Belait Convention Hall yesterday.
Legislative Council member and Acting Penghulu of Mukim Labi Yang Berhormat Hanapi bin Mohd Siput, department heads, penghulu, village heads, department heads and senior BSP officials also attended the event organised by the Belait District Orphans Fund committee.
The ceremony opened with the recitation of Tahlil and Doa Arwah led by Kampong Sungai Teraban Mosque Imam Mohd Hilmi bin Yakop.
Donations were sourced from the National Orphans Fund, Belait District Orphans Fund and Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD). The aid hopes to enliven the festive cheers and lessen the burden among the orphans from Mukim Kuala Belait and Kampong Panaga. The second part to this event will be held at Pusat Insani in Seria today.
Meanwhile, the Islamic Quran Readers Association (IQRA) presented donations to orphaned student and single mothers at IQRA Primary School in Jalan Manggis Satu recently.
IQRA Advisor Haji Mislee bin Haji Abdullah handed out the donations to 58 students and 33 single mothers of IQRA Primary School and IQRA Al-Quran Reading School, in the presence of IQRA President Pengiran Hajah Hasnah binti Pengiran Abdul Rahman, IQRA Association committee members, IQRA Primary School Headmaster Haji Zulkipli bin Haji Ladis, IQRA Al-Quran Reading School Principal Kamziah binti Haji Abas, teachers and teaching staff.
The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Abdul Azri bin Abdul Wahap, and continued with the recitation of Tahlil and Doa Arwah led by Hizbullah bin Haji Mohd Noah, and the breaking of fast.
The Malayali Association (MA) recently organised its 7th Hari Raya Donation Drive at Pusat Insani in Seria, distributing Ramadhan kits to 25 less fortunate families residing in Belait District, witnessed by Penghulu of Mukim Seria Haji Jamail bin Haji Linap.
MA President Ajayan P Vasu thanked Haji Jamail for the assistance and providing MA the opportunity to serve the local community, while MA Vice President Cyril Joseph highlighted that charity and service will always be the association’s primary objective.
Meanwhile, the National Association for the Hearing-Impaired (OKP) held for the first time its Projek OKP Prihatin, assisting families with donations.
Four families were selected, with the first phase (on April 25) targetting areas in Labi, Belait District and Kampong Lubok Pulau, Tutong District, while the second phase (on May 2) targetted Kampong Putat, Kampong Tungku Rimba and Kampong Tasek Meradun as well as Kampong Ujung Jalan in Temburong District.
OKP President Pengiran Haji Norahalim bin Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahman led the project.
