The Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) held a Doa Kesyukuran ceremony at the Brunei International Airport Surau yesterday to mark World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) 2022.

Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof attended the event.

Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) Ir Haji Mohammad Nazri bin Haji Mohammad Yusof, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Infocommunications) at the MTIC Haji Hairul Mohd Daud bin Haji Abdul Karim, Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary (Transport) at the MTIC Haji Mohd Salihin bin Haji Aspar, AITI Chief Executive Ir Haji Jailani bin Haji Buntar and members of AITI were also present.

Other guests included the acting chief executive of Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD), interim commissioner of Cyber Security Brunei; directors, senior officers and officers from the MTIC and AITI; and representatives from InfoCom Federation Brunei (IFB), telecom service providers and ICT companies.

The ceremony began with mass Sunnat Hajat and Asar prayers, led by Haji Mohd Ashraf bin Haji Bujang, followed by the recitation of Surah Yaasiin, Tahlil and Doa Kesyukuran.

The WTISD has been celebrated on May 17 since 1969 to mark the founding of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the signing of the first International Telegraph Convention in 1865.

It also raises awareness on the possibilities that the use of the Internet and other information and communications technologies (ICTs) can bring together societies and economies, as well as offer ways to bridge the digital divide.

This year’s theme ‘Digital Technologies for Older Persons and Healthy Ageing’, emphasises the role of ICT in enabling senior citizens to stay healthy, connected and independent as well as allowing them to participate in and to contribute to the society.
