Disappointed with how case is handled

MY FAMILY and I were victims of an arson attempt at our house recently.

The fire itself was quickly contained as a neighbour passing by alerted and helped us put the fire out.

After containing the fire, we called the police for help to hopefully start an investigation.

Our first call was made around 9.45pm and as of the time of writing at 8.33pm the next day the police had still not come to our house for a follow-up on the call.

Multiple calls were made hours after the first call and the responses we got ranged from shift changes to communication breakdowns.

Sadly, this is not the first time this has happened. Years prior, our house was broken into and some valuables were stolen.

The difference that time was that the police actually arrived promptly but upon arrival they accused us of leaving the doors and windows unlocked when they were obviously broken into due to the damage.

Such a statement was truly appalling in the face of victims of a crime.

Although no lives were lost during the arson attempt, what if things happened differently? What if the neighbour never passed by our house and we were never alerted to the fire until it was too late?

While I am not angry, I am truly disappointed.
