DEPUTY State Mufti Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Japar bin Haji Mat Dain @ Maidin yesterday left for Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates to attend the Global Conference of Human Fraternity.

According to the State Mufti’s Office, the two- day conference hosted by the Muslim Council of Elders will convene prominent international religious, intellectual and media personalities with the objective of reaching a framework for cooperation among peace advocates, towards the goal of a more cohesive human fraternity.

The gathering will also coincide with the first visit of the Head of the Catholic Church Pope Francis to Gulf states, where he is expected to attend the final session of the conference to promote tolerance values between different religions.

The Muslim Council of Elders – which is chaired by the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Dr Ahmed Al-Tayeb – is an independent international organisation established in 2014 to promote peace within the Islamic community. The council also brings together prominent Islamic scholars, experts and figures who are well-known for their values of wisdom, justice, freedom and moderation.

The Deputy State Mufti is accompanied by Head of Buhuth at the State Mufti’s Office Ustaz Haji Mas Reduan bin Haji Jumat at the conference.
