Six third-year dentistry students from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) donated BND1,200 to Down Syndrome Association (ABLE) and another BND1,200 to Children’s Cancer Foundation (YASKA) yesterday. The donations were raised from the virtual run, ‘Run from Fake Braces’, during a fake braces awareness campaign from August to November last year.
The campaign was a community outreach programme aimed at raising awareness on the dangers of fake braces among sixth form students and the public. Several activities were held, including school talks, poster making competition and the virtual run.
The donation for ABLE was presented to its Deputy President Siti Zaliha binti Haji Abu Salim. Secretaries Hajah Marinah binti Haji Abdul Hadi and Hajah Liza Jasmin binti Haji Brahim also attended.
ABLE is a non-government organisation (NGO) run by caregivers of individuals with down syndrome.
At Pengiran Anak Puteri Rasyidah Sa’adatul Bolkidah Institute of Health Sciences, UBD, the donation to YASKA was received by its Vice Chairperson Tsara’ Nawwarah binti Abdullah Chen.
YASKA is a NGO that offers support to children diagnosed with cancer and their families.
