Deno FC stepped up their preparations ahead of the upcoming Brunei-Muara District Football League with a pre-season friendly against Dagang FT at the Public Works Department Football Field ‘B’ in Jalan Airport Lama yesterday.
The Brunei-Muara based outfit have been training extensively since last year in a period where domestic clubs around the country began to organise sessions following the gradual easing of measures.
Training programmes were allowed with an increased group size despite COVID-19 curbs on holding football competitions.
Deno FT, which was established in 2018, boast a squad of 23 players with several under-25 players and a foreign player from Indonesia in their roster.
Team Manager Najip Moktal said, “We hope to see an improvement in the team’s performance compared to previous seasons in the upcoming League.” Najip added that the team underwent a trial to select the young players with the friendly match against Dagang providing an insight of the starting line-up in their first game of the season.
The local club last participated in the 2019 edition with the league not held last year due to the pandemic.
Since its establishment, Deno FC have also been involved in the Piala Gabungan in 2019 where they were drawn in the same group as Brunei Super League sides Kota Ranger FC and Kasuka FC.
Deno FC currently trains at a school field in Subok under the watchful eyes of Najib and head coach Azamerol Liam, both central figures in the team’s management.
The team’s immediate interest will be the draw during a manager’s meeting this Friday ahead of the start of the much-anticipated Brunei Muara District Football League season on July 2.
