Defending champion Suhaimi bin Ibrahim will look to retain his title in the 20th Pusat Ehsan Charity Golf Tournament after booking his place in the final round of the men’s gross category at the Pantai Mentiri Golf Club in Kampong Mentiri yesterday.

The seasoned golfer finished in the top 12 with a score of even-par 72, one stroke behind the highest ranked player.

Clubhouse leaders Bryan Chiew and Moksen Junaidi are the men in form heading into the final round after posting a shared score of 71.

Suhaimi will not only set his sights on a hat-trick of Pusat Ehsan titles since lifting the coveted Patron’s Challenge Trophy in November 2016 but also a third successive major title at the Pantai Mentiri golf course.

Known to be a household name in the domestic golfing scene, Suhaimi won the Pantai Mentiri Amateur Open in April 2019 before winning the Pusat Ehsan tournament at the same venue.

But, there will be no shortage of competition as other prominent golfers with the likes Seruji bin Haji Setia, the man who won the 18th edition in April 2019 expressing similar interest of capturing the crown.

National athletes Mohd Aritz Maldini bin Haji Abdul Majid and Awangku Muhd Syakir bin Pengiran Alli also booked their spots in the top 12.

Reigning Baiduri Masters champion Mohd Aritz Maldini will be a force in the final round and will look to add on the Pusat Ehsan title to his trophy cabinet.

His teammate Awangku Muhd Syakir bin Pengiran Alli is also no stranger to the course having triumphed in the Pantai Mentiri Open two years ago.

Also in the frame is Ahmad Yani, another golfer who has performed consistently in the local circuit.

Other finalists included Madan Kumar Gurung, Dato Haji bin Harith bin Haji Karim, Mohd Hariz Hasim, Mohd Khairul bin Haji Paun and Md Rizal Hadi.

The top 12 players will play for the title in the final session of the three-day long championship today.

The tournament also featured other categories including Division ‘A’, Division ‘B’, Division ‘C’, Senior Golfers (aged 55 and above), ladies, VIP and sponsors.
