Defence academy marks 11th anniversary

The Defence Academy Royal Brunei Armed Forces (DA RBAF) celebrated its 11th anniversary at the Auditorium Hall yesterday.

DA RBAF Acting Commandant Lieutenant Colonel (U) Azmie Iskandar bin Ariffin was the guest of honour. Event chairman Lieutenant Commander Mohammad Khairul Anuar bin Abdullah; officers; military and civilian personnel were also present.

The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and was followed by the guest of honour’s speech.

The acting commandant reflected on the DA RBAF’s journey and achievements over the past 11 years. He noted that the DA RBAF has conducted training and courses to face challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic by embracing the digital technology reflecting the academy’s capacity for adaptation and resilience in adopting to the new normal.

He expressed hope that the DA RBAF will continue to work hard towards achieving the academy’s vision and mission of becoming a world class professional military academic institution and realise its Strategic Plan 2035.

He also stressed the importance of training and education to build capable, well-prepared and effective armed forces as outlined in the 2021 Defence White Paper.

Additionally, he encouraged all DA RBAF personnel to remain engaged in developing new strategies in adapting to current and future circumstances.

He expressed gratitude to the DA RBAF personnel who have served and are now serving in support of the government’s whole-of-nation approach to containing the COVID-19 outbreak and commended them for their courage, devotion and self-sacrifice.

The event also saw a presentation of awards to personnel who displayed excellent performance in their duties and made outstanding contributions to the organisation in 2021. For the Senior Non-Commissioned Officers category, the award was given to Staff Sergeant Mohammad Royzi bin Rosli, while the Junior Non-Commissioned Officers category award was given to Lance Corporal Mohammad Azreen bin Aspar.

The event proceeded with videos presentations that showcased DA RBAF’s past activities and achievements. Five roads within the DA RBAF Camp were also renamed.

The ceremony concluded with the recitation of Doa Kesyukuran by the academy’s religious teacher Abdul Nasir bin Hassan.
