DCA debunks viral airport video

The Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) under the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) has responded to a viral video on the drainage system in the concourse area of the Brunei International Airport.

According to the DCA, the incident in the video was caused by excess rainwater during a heavy downpour last Saturday.

“The existing drainage system was able to contain the excess water, which did not result in an overflow. The situation is still under control, and has not affected any operations at the Brunei International Airport,” it said in a statement.

Members of the public are urged not to believe unverified social media reports and to stop disseminating the video further.

The DCA also reminded that spreading false and baseless rumours is an offence under Chapter 148 of the Public Order Act, which is punishable by a BND3,000 fine and a jail term of up to three years.
