Cyber Battle finals set for June 20

Brunei Darussalam’s premier computer hacking competition ‘Cyber Battle: Capture The Flag (CTF)’ return for its 6th edition next week. The competition is organised annually by a local cybersecurity company ITPSS Sdn Bhd.

This year, the event will be held as part of the Digital Technology Week at Brunei Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition (MYCE) initiated by the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT).

In Cyber Battle, participants are challenged in a variety of real-life scenarios, with the goal of obtaining ‘flags’ within the time limit. The qualifying round was held online last week, seeing 22 teams competing for coveted spots in the final.

Only 10 teams will be moving on to the final round on June 20, where Brunei’s top hackers will face their opponents in person.

The final round of Cyber Battle will be a full-day event held at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas. In addition to the top three cash prizes of BND3500, BND2500 and BND1500, a score bonus of BND2500 will be awarded to the first team that reaches a designated score. There will also be category bonus prizes for the first team to complete challenges in each category.

To complement the competition, ITPSS will also host a series of free public presentations by local cybersecurity experts and professionals. Dubbed ‘Talks at Cyber Battle,’ the presentations will be held at the Press Conference Hall of the ICC on June 20.

The talks will cover a range of cybersecurity topics including careers in cyber security, video forensics and the vulnerability of Internet of things (IoT) devices.
