THE Ministry of Education (MoE) – through the Higher Education Division, Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE), and Scholarship Section – yesterday launched the Higher Education Expo 2019 at the BRIDEX Hall 2 in Jerudong.
Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the MoE cum guest of honour Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad officiated the launch of the two-day event, which runs until today.
Aside from exhibitions and consultation sessions, the expo includes seminars and forums (by local educational institutions and associations) on how to write a personal statement or Curriculum Vitae, interview tips, ‘Life as a Student Abroad’ and ‘Success Stories of Local Graduates’ Forum.
The expo’s primary focus is to be a ‘One Stop Information Centre for Higher Education’ as it unites all post-secondary educational institutions, government and private institutions of higher education as well as local and foreign education agencies under one roof.
It also aims to highlight the multiple pathways to higher educational opportunities available locally and abroad.
A total of 58 institutions of higher learning, educational services agencies and other relevant government and private agencies are participating in the expo. Of that, there are 13 public and private higher education institutions, 21 foreign educational institutions, 12 government and private agencies, eight local and international education services agencies, and four missions and overseas representatives.
The local government higher education institutions include Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB), Politeknik Brunei (PB) and IBTE.
The private higher education institutions include Kolej International Graduate Studies (KIGS), Laksamana College of Business (LCB), Cosmopolitan College of Commerce and Technology (CCCT), Micronet International College (MIC), Kemuda Institute, BICPA FTMS Accountancy Academy and Mahakarya Institute of the Arts.
At the expo, the MoE has made available the latest information regarding HECAS Admissions System, government scholarships, Educational Loan Scheme (SBPP), application for the recognition of courses/approvals, careers and so on.
The MoE is represented by the Higher Education Division, Scholarship Section, Secretariat of Brunei Darussalam National Accreditation Council and the Counselling and Career Section of the Department of Schools.
The expo is open to the public, especially secondary and pre-university post-graduates, Brunei GCE ‘O’ Level and ‘A’ Level or equivalent, and those intending to pursue higher education such as National Technical Education Certificate (NTec), Higher National Technical Education Certificate (HNTec), Diploma Level 5, Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree and Doctoral degree, as well as those who wish to develop their skills or professionalism.
Parking facilities and shuttle buses for the public are available at the Jerudong Park Playground car park during the expo.
