The highly-entertaining 32nd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) came to a close yesterday following two weeks of action-packed sporting drama and fever amid widespread interest and renewed rivalry among the regional sporting community.
The closing ceremony took place at the Morodok Techo National Stadium in Phnom Penh, Cambodia last night.
The closing ceremony commenced with a martial arts performance entitled ‘The Great Soul of Kun Bokator’ and the Parade of Nations of athletes and volunteers.
The event followed with a speech by Ministry of Tourism, President of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia and Chairman of SEA Games Federation (SEAGF) Council Dr Thong Khon.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence in his capacity as the Chairman of the Cambodia 32nd SEA Games and 12th ASEAN Para Games 2023 Organising Committee Samdech Pichey Sena Tea Banh also delivered a speech.
Outstanding and best athletes who demonstrated excellence were also feted during an award ceremony in recognition of their stellar performances.
Before a good crowd in attendance, Prime Minister of Cambodia Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen delivered remarks and announcement for the official closing of the 32nd SEA Games followed by the extinguishing of the fire with fireworks display.
As per tradition, the SEAGF flag was lowered with 64 children singing the SEAGF anthem.
The highlight of the event also witnessed the handover ceremony of the SEAGF flag to the Thailand who will be the host of the 33rd SEA Games. Before the end of the closing ceremony, the audience heard the singing of Thailand’s national anthem and treated to a performance by Thailand as a sneak preview of their hosting.
The event concluded with a musical performance themed Cambodian pride and a four-minute fireworks display.
